WHY SHOULD WE PLAY SOFTBALL? It is fun! West Jeff provides our mountain area 5-20 year old girls the
opportunity to have fun, learn teamwork, make friends, build confidence in themselves and learn the game of fastpitch softball. We support the female athlete.
DO YOU HAVE T-BALL TEAMS? Yes. Ages 5-7 play t-ball (grades K-1), 8 year olds play coach pitch (2nd grade), and we start playing 'player pitch' at age 9 (3rd grade). Girls can play up in age if they have the skills and maturity.
WHAT AREA MAKES UP WEST JEFF? We represent west Jefferson County, generally Evergreen, Marshdale, Conifer, Morrison and Genessee. Girls from the more western areas such as Bailey and Idaho Springs areas are also invited to join.
HOW DO I REGISTER? By clicking on 'Forms' at the top of this site, printing a 2010 registration form and sending it in.
WHEN IS THE REGISTRATIONS DEADLINE? December 18, 2009 is our early registration period. After that an additional $25 registration fee will apply.
WHAT IS THE COST TO REGISTER? West Jeff Girls Softball is one of the least expensive youth sports in the mountain area. For the 2010 season, $100 for ages 5-8, $150 for ages 9-18.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER COSTS? Players must purchase a uniform. Players should have a glove. West Jeff provides our recreational teams with bats, helmets, catchers gear, etc.
DO WE HAVE TO TRYOUT? There are no tryouts for girls playing on our recreational teams, everyone is welcome. West Jeff does have several tournament level (competitive) teams that play under the banner of Rocky Mountain Rampage, which do require tryouts by contacting the coach.
WHEN WILL TEAMS BE FORMED? Teams will be formed in January.
WHEN DOES PRACTICE BEGIN? That is up to our individual coaches and the weather, but generally practices begin around mid March or after spring break.
TELL ME ABOUT PRACTICES? Practices are generally held in the Evergreen, Marshdale or Conifer areas. WJ gets a list of available fields and times which our coaches choose from. Coaches try to pick fields closest to where a majority of players live. Generally, our coaches will hold one weekday practice and one weekend practice, each lasting about 1.5-2 hours.
TELL ME ABOUT THE GAMES? The season kicks off about mid May and runs through the first part of July. For 2010, the season will run from May 10 through July 9. Games are scheduled on week days. The younger girls generally play about 10 games, the older girls play about 16 games.
WHERE ARE THE GAMES? WJ is part of the Girls Softball League of Jefferson County, www.jeffcogirlssoftball.com. WJ plays about half of our games at home in the Evergreen and Conifer area. We can possibly play away games versus Golden, Bear Creek, Alameda-Green Mountain, Arvada, Lakewood, Wheat Ridge and South Jefferson County.
WHAT ABOUT TOURNAMENTS? Girls Softball League of Jefferson County sponsors a recreational tournament for all of our rec teams. The weekend tournament is optional, but tournament fees are included in our registration, so we encourage our teams to play as part of their season. A tournament is where teams from each age group come together and play each other in a some tournament format, generally double elimination or round robin, where the girls get to play several games in one weekend. The recreational tournaments are held on a different weekend throughout the season for the different ages. Recreational teams can enter 'C' level tournaments outside of Jeffco on their own if they wish.
