The Girls Softball League of Jefferson County will be hosting a fall softball league for teams ages 10U, 12U and 14U. West Jeff point of contact is Steve White at info@wjgirlssoftball.com. Doubleheader games will be played on Saturdays starting Sep 11 and running for 6 weeks, one umpire per game, $50 for individual players, $500 for a team. Register by Aug 27.
Our WJ Bobcats (first year midget player pitch, age 9U) won the Girls Softball League Jefferson County tournament the weekend of June 26-27 at Creekside Park in Wheat Ridge. The Bobcats went undefeated with a 4-0 record with wins of 3-2 over the Golden Eagles, 6-3 over the South Jeff Cheetahs, 6-5 against the Arvada Stix and a 4-0 shut out in the championship game over the Wheat Ridge Sluggers. The Bobcats are coached by Justin Cates and Matt Nichols. Job very well done Bobcats, Go West Jeff!
The Rocky Mountain Rampage 16A traveled to North Platte, Nebraska the weekend of June 12-13 to play in the ASA Buffalo Bill Tourney. The weekend was full of bad weather and even tornado warnings, but our girls had some fun and won a few games. Based upon pool play results and unable to finish bracket play, the Rampage brought home the 2nd place trophy and were awarded the Sportsmanship award. Good job ladies!
Our Rocky Mountain Rampage 16A Burns team traveled to Colorado Springs on June 5-6 for the USSSA 'Thunder Down Under' 18U Open Tournament featuring 15 teams. The Rampage went 4-1-1 on the weekend to bring home the 3rd place trophy, averaging 5 runs a game while only giving up an average of 3 runs a game. Good job ladies and good luck in North Platte, Nebraska June 12-13 for the ASA Buffalo Bill tournament!
NCAA fastpitch softball World Series games started on June 3 and are being shown on TV, http://web1.ncaa.org/NCAATV/exec/query to check listings. These are darn fun games to watch to see the skill and athleticism of these young women, many are among the best ball players in the world. Color commentary is usually provided by very accomplished players who have played for or currently play for Team USA, were multiple time NCAA All Americans, they provide some great bits of insight into the womens fastpitch game.
The WJ Cougars (Senior Division, age 20U) won a come from behind victory over Lakewood 10-9 at Conifer High School on Tuesday, June 1. Trailing 5-9 in the bottom of the final frame, the Cougars rallied for 5 runs. Pictured is Sidney Stansbury sliding safely into home for the winning run. Coach Mick McGoldrick said after the game, "Good things come to those who don't quit!"
The WJ Grizzlies (Intermediate Division, age 14U) won 8-7 over Arvada at Conifer High School field on Tuesday, June 1. The Grizzlies rallied in the bottom of the final frame to earn the victory. Pictured is Genevieve Ditlevson covering 3B on a steal attempt. Coach Denise Nelson said of the team after the game, "We are starting to play well and the girls kept fighting."
The WJ Sox (first year junior, age 11U) led by Coach Jon Collie traveled to Clement Field on Monday, May 24 and brought home a 19-8 victory over South Jeff. Coach Jon replied after the game, "The girls are really improving every day!"
The WJ Mountain Lions (mini midget coach pitch, age 8U) won a come from behind last inning shoot out versus a strong Cheetahs team from Alameda-Green Mountain, 19-17, on Thursday, May 20 at Stagecoach field. Pictured is Sidney Lawless stretching for the ball and making the scoop for the play at first base. Coach Steve Nuccio commented, "The girls are having fun!"
The WJ Bobcats (first midget player pitch, age 9U) trailed the Arvada Hawks 1-3 going into the bottom of the last inning at Stagecoach Field on Thursday, May 20. The never say die Bobcats rallied for 3 runs in the bottom of the final frame to squeak out a 4-3 victory. Pictured is Josey Nichols driving a single in the first inning. Coach Justin Cates said after the game, "I am really proud of the girls, they didn't get down on themselves, kept playing hard and found a way to get it done."
